Conversion Tracking

Conversion tracking tells Topple when someone completes an action you care about — like a purchase or a signup — after seeing your ad.

What Conversion Tracking Does

Conversion tracking lets you measure the actions your ads drive beyond just clicks. When someone clicks your ad, sees your landing page, and then completes a purchase, signup, or other action you care about, a conversion tracking pixel records that event and sends it back to Topple. You can then see conversion counts, conversion rates, and optionally conversion values directly in your campaign reporting.

Attribution Window

Conversion tracking records that a qualifying conversion happened. Attribution is the separate question of whether that conversion can be connected to engagement with a Topple ad — Topple uses click-based attribution, meaning it looks for a qualifying click, not just an impression. You choose an attribution window of 30, 60, or 90 days, which controls how long after the click a conversion can still count. You also choose a Count setting of One or Multiple, which controls how many qualifying purchases during that window are included in your attributed revenue.

Creating a Conversion Pixel

Go to Pixel Center in your Topple account and click New Pixel. Select Conversion as the pixel type, choose a conversion value (No Value, Fixed, or Dynamic — see Conversion Goals & Tags), name the pixel, and save. Topple generates your pixel code.

WARNING

Creating a pixel is only step one. A pixel sitting in your account but not installed on your website will never fire and will never record a conversion. After creating the pixel, you must install its code on the specific page where the conversion action completes — typically a 'Thank You' or order confirmation page. Conversions will not appear in reporting until the pixel is live on the correct page.

Installing the Pixel

Paste the pixel code into the <head> section of your thank-you page (or fire it via your tag manager, if you use one). The pixel fires each time that page loads, which tells Topple a conversion occurred. For fixed or dynamic value tags, see Conversion Goals & Tags for the specific code format.

Common Mistakes

  1. 1Installing the pixel on the wrong page — the conversion pixel must go on the specific page where the conversion action completes: the order confirmation or thank-you page. Installing it on a general landing page or your homepage means every visitor fires a conversion, inflating your count with non-converting sessions.
  2. 2Creating the pixel but never installing it — a pixel sitting in your Topple account without any code on your website will never fire. Pixel Center will show the pixel exists, but zero conversions will be recorded. After creating, always verify the pixel is live by completing a test conversion and checking that the count updates.
  3. 3Expecting conversions to appear immediately — conversions can take up to 24 hours to process and appear in your dashboard after they occur. If you completed a test purchase and see nothing, wait a full day before concluding there is a problem.

Still Not Seeing Conversions?

If your pixel is installed on the correct page and conversions are still not appearing after 24 hours, see the troubleshooting guide.
