What Is Run-of-Network

Run-of-Network (RON) is the targeting approach where your campaign shows to all eligible users on the Topple network, without filtering by interest category, device type, or other behavioral signals. The only filters that remain active are geo targeting (if set) and any audience type selection (Prospecting vs. Retargeting).

When to Use It

Run-of-Network is a good default for new campaigns and nationwide brand-awareness efforts where you want maximum reach. It tends to deliver more impressions per dollar than narrowly targeted campaigns. Once you have performance data from the Interest Categories and Devices tabs, you can use it to inform more targeted campaigns.

Common Mistakes

  1. 1Assuming Run-of-Network means low-quality placements — RON does not mean remnant or low-value inventory. It means your campaign is not filtered by interest or device, so it can win any impression Topple has available. The quality of placements is determined by the publisher network, not the targeting mode.
  2. 2Abandoning RON too quickly without checking reporting — new advertisers often switch to interest targeting after a few days of RON without looking at the Interest Categories report first. The RON data tells you which categories are actually performing. Use that before applying manual filters.
