Campaign Optimization:
Getting More From
Your Budget.

How Topple optimizes campaign delivery over time — and how to set your campaigns up to benefit from it.

How campaign optimization works

Topple campaigns optimize creative delivery based on performance data. When multiple creative variants are running within the same campaign, the platform monitors which variants are driving better results and shifts delivery toward higher-performing creative over time. This is not instant — optimization requires time to accumulate meaningful data. Early in a campaign, delivery is more evenly distributed across variants. Over time, the platform’s optimization engine applies what it learns to improve performance within the available budget and target audience. Optimization works within the boundaries you set. It cannot expand your audience beyond what you’ve targeted, create new creative, or increase budget. It improves delivery efficiency within those parameters.

Campaign objectives and how they affect optimization

The campaign objective you select tells Topple what to optimize toward. Different objectives produce different optimization behaviors.

Brand Awareness

Optimization focuses on reach — delivering impressions to as broad a portion of the target audience as possible within the budget.

Site Traffic

Optimization focuses on clicks — identifying the creative and placement combinations most likely to drive visitors to your site.

Custom / Conversions

Optimization focuses on driving the specific conversion event you have defined — a purchase, signup, or other tracked action. Requires the pixel and sufficient conversion data to optimize against.

The optimization loop

Campaign optimization is not a one-time setup — it is an ongoing process of measurement and refinement across campaigns over time.

IMPROVE

Each campaign generates data that informs the next. Creative variants that perform better indicate what your audience responds to. Targeting parameters that produce better conversion rates indicate where to concentrate future budget. Campaigns that underperform against their objective reveal where the strategy needs adjustment. The most important optimization input is always the one you control: the quality of the creative, the precision of the targeting, and the relevance of the campaign to the audience. In-platform optimization makes effective campaigns more efficient — it cannot make an ineffective campaign perform.

What to do when a campaign underperforms

When campaign results fall short of objective, check the fundamentals before assuming the platform is the issue:

Creative

Is the creative message clear? Does it have a strong CTA? Is it designed for the actual ad format? Weak creative is the most common cause of underperformance.

Targeting

Is the audience too narrow to deliver? Is the geographic area too small? Is the interest category relevant to the product?

Objective alignment

Is the campaign objective aligned with what you are actually measuring? A brand awareness campaign will not optimize for conversions.

Pixel / tracking

For conversion-optimized campaigns, is the pixel correctly installed and firing on the right events? Missing or misconfigured tracking prevents optimization.

Questions

Questions,
answered.

Does Topple automatically optimize my campaign?
Yes — the Topple platform optimizes creative delivery based on performance data across the variants running in your campaign. This optimization happens within the targeting and budget parameters you have set. It requires multiple creative variants to function — with only one creative, there is nothing to optimize between.
How long does optimization take to make a difference?
Optimization improves over time as data accumulates. Very new campaigns — especially those with limited daily budget or small audience size — may not generate enough data in the first few days to produce meaningful optimization signals. Allow campaigns enough time and budget to accumulate data before evaluating results.
Do I need to actively manage my campaign for optimization to work?
In-platform optimization is automatic. However, active campaign management — reviewing performance data, updating creative as it ages, adjusting targeting based on results — improves outcomes over time. Optimization within a campaign is automatic; the strategic decisions about creative, targeting, and budget still require human judgment.
What if I only have one creative version?
Running a single creative version limits what the platform can optimize. The campaign will deliver that creative to your audience, but there is no optimization signal available — only one variant means no basis for comparison. Creating at least two to three creative variants, with a single meaningful difference between them, is the minimum needed to enable creative optimization.
